Hi, I am originally from West Bengal but was staying in Mumbai for the last eight years. It is the commercial capital of India and is a vibrant city with a lot of sightseeing options. Most people like to enjoy the weekend and hence in and around a lot of places like Mahabaleshwar, Matheran, Lonavala has become very popular. Also people goes on pilgrimage to Shirdi, Trimbakeshwar, Kolhapur and the very quiet hill station Panhala etc. I have a good knowledge of these places and can make your stay memorable. I will be able to guide visitors to places of the interest. And the most important I am very keen in providing the best service within the budget of the visitors.

i  am  planning  to  go  in  mumbai  and  stay  for  1  week, ostly  andheri.is  there  any  possible  room  that  more  cheaper  than  a  hotel  or  transcient?  thanks
replied by CityGuide: pooja on Mar 29, 2007 12:07 PM
Apart  from  hotels  if  you  are  looking  out  for  cheap  accomodations,i  think  cenetariums  should  be  the  best  option  for  u  where  they  give  you  a  flat  as  an  accomodation  where  you  can  stay  with  your  family  too. But  the  problem  here  is  they  provide  charge  on  monthly  basis. Some  of  such  cenetariums  are  Kunwar  bai,Parekh  cenetarium  in  Kandivli.
For  accomodation  in  Andheri  you  can  log  on  to  http://www.indiahotelreview.com/destination_mumbai-west.htm

Hi
I  am  flying  to  Mumbai  next  week  for  7  days.  The  plan  is  to  stay  in  the  city  for  3  days  and  then  go
somewhere  south.  I  am  not  really  familiar  with  the  region  -  do  you  have  any  suggestions  as  to
what  to  see  in  Mumbai  (apart  from  Elephanta  Island)  and  where  to  go  south.    Goa  is  an  option.

Hi  Yogita,      the  four  kiwis  travelling  to  India  again.      Some  more  questions.        I  have  tried  the  konkan  website  for  the  0111  train  to  Goa  but  find  a  problem  when  entering  the  date  of  travel.    For  instance  the  the  day  and  the  month  is  ok  but  when  it  comes  to  the  year  it  gives  the  option  of  YYYY  (which  cannot  be  changed)  and  2002  and  2003.      Obviously  we  are  past  those  years  so  I  am  thinking  there  is  a  problem  with  the  site.      Is  it  possible  for  you  to  advise  the  Railway  people  about  this.      We  are  not  travelling  til  May  so  I  was  trying  to  book  as  a  test  run  but  with  this  year  problem  it  is  not  possible.      I  noticed  that  someone  from  Australia  is  having  problems  as  well.      We  are  coming  in  May  though,  not  April.      The  website  says  you  can  only  book  within  one  week  of  travel.      What  are  our  chances  of  booking  on  line  a  week  before  we  come,  do  you  think?        Or  should  we  look  at  it  being  booked  by  someone  in  Mumbai  before  we  come.
Also  which  would  be  a  very  good  shopping  centre  that  we  could  go  to  in  Mumbai  to  get  sports  wear,  and  good  western  style  clothing  etc.      We  only  have  a  few  days  in  Mumbai  before  we  go  to  Goa  -  Is  there  any  thing  that  we  will  not  be  able  to  buy  in  Goa  that  we  should  get  while  in  Mumbai.      When  we  return  from  Goa  it  will  be  straight  onto  our  flight  home.
One  last  thing,      we  are  staying  at  the  Lotus  timeshare  which  is  close  to  the  airport.        Will  it  be  easy  for  us  to  get  into  the  city  for  the  sightseeing  and  shopping.          Which  would  be  best  -  train  or  taxi  or  ???
Thanks  Teresa

Hi  teresa, thanx  for  ur  question.teresa  the  bookings  that  u  were  talking  about,if  that  is  done  from  mumbai  by  someone  prior  to  ur  travel  will  definitely  be  a  good  option. And  as  long  as  shopping  is  concerned,Mumbai  has  got  a  lots  of  interesting  shopping  malls  which  will  give  you  good  platform  to  shop  like  the  phoenix  in  lower  parel, cross  road  near  mahalaxmi,Inorbit  in  Goregaon,Shoppers  stop  at  mulund, andheri  &  bandra.Bandra  is  very  famous  for  shopping  at  hill  road  &  linking  road  too, these  will  give  you  a  chance  for  good  variety  of  choices  at  very  cheap  rates. You  can  even  try  with  Globus  in  Bandra. The  above  mentioned  list  goes  for  Mumbai-south  &  western  area,if  u  r  looking  out  for  Mumbai  central  side,i  think  Mulund  will  be  a  good  option  with  Nirmal  Lifestyle  &  R  Mall  there. And  yes  the  best  mode  of  travel  will  be  taxis  for  sure  as  the  local  trains  here  are  always  very  very  crowded.

Thank  you  for  your  reply  although  trying  to  do  this  from  Melbourne,  Australia  is  becoming  complicated.    As  I  do  not  wish  to  telephone  a  travel  agent  from  Australia.    Can  you  advise  me  what  a  volvo  is,  I  am  unsure,  do  you  mean  a  bus.    Do  they  go  of  an  evening?    I  need  to  organise  all  of  this  before  I  arrive  in  India  and  contact  numbers  of  people  is  not  really  as  helpful  as  a  website  address  so  this  can  be  organised  before  I  arrive.

I  wish  to  arrive  in  Mumbai  and  leave  the  same  night  if  possible.    Overnight  stay  in  Mumbai  is  not  something  I  want  to  do.

Please  advise  further  website  of  trusted  travel  agents,  if  you  know  of  them.

Shirley,Volvo  is  a  luxury  kind  of  bus  which  is  larger  than  normal  buses  with  better  comfort  levels. They  have  a/c  and  both  non-a/c  buses. And  yes  they  do  go  of  in  evening  too  it  takes  around  10  hrs  travel  from  mumbai  to  goa. And  s  long  s  good  travel  agents  are  concerned  do  check  out  with  the  following  travel  agencies.they  r  really  good  ones  but  m  not  very  sure  about  whether  they  provide  volvo  services  for  goa  or  not. But  this  are  its  details  do  check,i  hope  this  might  help  you.

I  am  having  difficulty  booking  a  train  ticket  on-line  on-line  from  Melbourne,  Australia  for  the  0111  to  Goa  on  1  April  2007.    I  was  planning  to  get  off  my  plane  at  the  international  airport  on  the  Sunday  night,  taxi  to  Thane  station  to  get  the  0111  sleeper  train  to  Karmali,  Goa.    Every  time  I  log  on  to  a  new  booking  it  just  bombs  out.    I  have  emailed  the  indian  railway  and  they  tell  me  to  keep  trying.    As  I  do  not  want  to  stay  in  Mumbai  for  the  night  is  it  possible  to  just  get  on  the  train  without  a  ticket  and  pay  for  it  once  I  arrive.    Being  a  sleeper  train,  would  this  be  difficult?    I  have  phoned  the  Indian  Tourism  Authority  in  Australia  but  they  do  not  seem  to  be  able  to  assist  me.    Your  advice  would  be  appreciated.
replied by CityGuide: pooja on Mar 15, 2007 02:04 PM
Hey  Shirley,April  being  the  full  season  it  will  really  be  difficult  to  get  a  booking  done  on  urgent  basis  and  if  u  decide  to  board  the  train  without  ticket  and  pay  it  for  once,it  will  really  cost  u  almost  double. One  way  that  i  can  suggest  u  is  take  a  volvo  from  bandra  or  colaba  or  even  andheri. There  are  many  travel  agencies  which  provide  regular  volvo-bus  service  and  so  you  will  get  the  tickets  also  easily, also  this  will  cost  you  only  Rs700-900  one  way.I  think  u  can  try  this  option  it  will  save  your  time  and  money.Check  out  with  Mukund  travels,Paula  travels  and  many  more  as  such.
