Agra - Land of Taj Mahal

A few years back I had accompanied my father and brother to Delhi. We had come here to visit my cousin and had a nice tour of the nearby city of Agra. We had come in the month of October and had stayed for three days. It was a very nice journey wherein we had departed from Delhi in the morning and had reached Agra by afternoon (approximately 05 hours drive). We first visited the Agra Fort and then the Taj Mahal. The Agra Fort is built out of red bricks and is 2.5kms north from the Taj Mahal. The Taj can be seen from here. Shah Jehan spent his last days here when he was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb. The fort has two gates, Delhi Gate and the Lahore Gate. The Delhi gate faces the city. However, the tourists enter the fort by the Lahore Gate which is so called as it faces Lahore. There are a lot of structure inside the Agra Fort. Notable among them are Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience) and Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), Khas Mahal, Jehangiri Mahal, Moti Masjid, Musamman Burj, Rang Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Anguri Bagh. The Khas Mahal is the white marble palace and has beautiful paintings on marble. Jehangiri Mahal was built by Akbar for his son Jehangir. The Moti Masjid was the private mosque of Shah Jehan. Sheesh Mahal was royal dressing room featuring tiny mirror-like glass-mosaic decorations on the walls. The Angoori Gardens are geometrically arranged gardens.
After visiting Agra Fort, we went to visit Taj Mahal. It is a grand monument and especially in the evening it looks wonderful when the moon rays fall on it. Built in the memory of Mumtaz Mahal it is a masterpiece and is aptly one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This monument was studded with precious and semi precious stones. This is the reason why Taj Mahal glows in moonlight. It is a finest example of Mughal architecture and exhibits a style of Persian, Indian , Trukish and Islamic architecture. It is decorated with exquisite geometric calligraphy designs which are lavishly used especially in the plinth, minarets, gateway, mosque, and jawab, and, to a lesser extent, on the surfaces of the tomb. It contains the cenotaphs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. Muslim tradition forbids elaborate decoration of graves, so the bodies of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan are laid in a relatively plain crypt beneath the inner chamber of the Taj Mahal.
We reached Delhi at about 0900 in the night. Above all, we enjoyed the whole day and had a lot of fun.
