Banswara, forest of teak on the slopes of Aravali hills

Banswara , founded by Maharwal Jagmal Singh, is inhabited mainly by tribals among which Bhils form 39 % of the tribal population. Its eastern side is covered with Aravali ranges and central & western portion are cultivable plains.There is a dense forest of teak on the slopes of Aravali hills, which provides home for different kind of animals. Thunder storms occur in the summer months and in monsoon months here.
Worth Visiting Places :
The Palace, owned by Royal Family, overlooks the town and spreads in a big area on the top in between the city.
Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam (18km) along with kagdi Pik up is worthwhile places to visit. Numerous dams and canals are situated at this beautiful site. Due to the number of islands on Mahi river, Banswara is also known as ‘City of Hundred Islands’.
Anand Sagar Lake, ana artifical lake, is located on the eastern side of the town. Holy tree namely ‘Kalp Vriksha’ is present nearby.
Madreshwar Temple of Lord Shiva along with Dwarkadish Temple, Laxmi Narayan Temple, Vaneshwar Mahadeo temple are situated among natural surroundings.
Worth Visiting Places Around :
Arthuna (55km), a village known for its antiquity, has clusters of ruins of Hindu and Jain temples. Big festivals are organized here.
Tripura Sundari Temple (19km) is said to be one of the ‘Shakti Peeth’ of Hindus, which was built before Samarat Kanishka who ruled here. Gotia-Amba fair is held in the month of March when Bhils gather here to worship and take holy bath in the tank near the temple which houses the idols of Pandavas. Chinch, Talwara (15km) etc are other worthplaces.
