Holiday Travel Destinations

Stress is a part of modern life, so more and more people are travelling to get away from the daily grind. Naturally, there has been an increase in the tourist circuit.
Most people opt for short tours these days — which may last for a day or two — just to get away from office monotony. The tourist traffic further increases if a public holiday falls on a Friday or a Monday. The extended weekend means you get an extra day to relax, away from the pandemonium of the routine schedule. The weather also plays an important part in planning a travel program, as people want to escape extreme temperatures (be it sweltering summers or ice-cold winters).
A lot of advertisements and campaigns are conducted regularly to promote a destination. For example, Goa has been extensively promoted as a beach resort in the domestic market and abroad. Similarly Rishikesh has been promoted as a spa destination. Most foreign tourists visit the place simply for a spa treatment or to learn yoga. Kerala is as famous for its scenic beauty as it for its head massage and body massages, and spa treatment. These strategies have been successful in attracting tourists.
A new form of tourism that is drawing a lot of people from abroad is dental tourism. Cosmetic dentistry is very expensive abroad as compared to the prices charged by Indian doctors. Many foreigners come here for treatment and also take a tour of the nearby places.
Temple tours conducted in various tourist circuits have also always been popular. The Kandariya Mahadeva Temples at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh are world heritage sites. The exquisite sculptors and architectures attract a lot of people here. The Taj Mahal, among the seven wonders of the world, is one of the most visited monuments in India. A symbol of love built by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this white marble monument is a must see for all.
Hill stations attract tourists in search of pleasant climate and peaceful ambience. Shimla, Manali, Mussoorie and Nainital in north India, and Ooty, Munnar and Kumarakom in the south are among the favourites. Wildlife sanctuaries like Sunderbans in West Bengal, Corbett National Park in Uttaranchal, and Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur near Agra are popular among nature lovers.
Then there are the pilgrimage sites, which do not need much promotion. These places draw a dedicated lot annually. While places like Gaya, Mathura and Kashi attract pilgrims all round the year, other destinations like Amarnath are seasonal draws. The annual Amarnath Yatra sees the crowds trekking to the mountain abode of Lord Shiva, to offer prayers to the natural Shiva Linga formed from ice. The Shiva Linga lasts for only a few days. The pathway through the mountains is dangerous and, for visiting such a place, one has to acquire a long list of permits and pass medical check-ups.
For the traveller, of course, if there is a will there is a way. People are discovering new ways to de-stress themselves and India provides countless options — what with its perfect mix of hill stations, temples, wildlife sanctuaries, adventure sport activities, beach resorts etc. You name it, you get it. The diverse options provided and promoted make India a perfect holiday travel destination.
