There are very few people who actually dare to venture out in the rains. The ones who do go out can really chill out and enjoy the heavy monsoons. Lonavala is one place which is meant to be visited during the rainy season. Just a few hours drive from Mumbai & Pune, it has all one can ask for – forts, lakes, dams, lush green scenery, small waterfalls and springs. The climate is chilly but not very cold so that one does not need a sweater. Adults and children can enjoy themselves in the beautiful Tungarli Lake in Lonavala. The breathtaking scenery dotted with caves and the drops of water trickling down the leaves makes this a perfect place for trekkers.
Another beautiful place which can be visited in the rains is Bhimashankar. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is famous because of the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The dense forests surrounding the high ranges also play an abode to the rare species of flora and fauna. Situated at the extreme end of the Sahayadri Ranges, this place gives a wonderful view of the forts, the rivers and the hill stations around.
Panhala which was once the stronghold of Shivaji the Great is also visited by a lot of people. This is hardly an hourÂ’s drive from Kolhapur. This hill station has temples, majestic forts and beautiful sceneries. Trekking through the quaint alleys in the rains is an experience to cherish. The people here are very courteous and helpful. The small streams and springs from which water gushes out in the rains and the pathways surmounted by caves and mountains on both sides makes this place very alluring. Kolhapur is famous mainly for the Matalakshmi Temple and is venerated and visited by devotees from around the world.
Chikaldhara is another lovely destination which can be visited during the rains. It offers a plethora of choices to visit like lakes, waterfalls, view points and also flora and fauna. Chikhaldara is full of deep valleys, and these valleys are full of velvet mist and majestic trees. All this makes it a very popular summer retreat. With abundance of natural scenery, exciting wildlife, breathtaking waterfalls and a placid lake, the beauty of Chikhaldara is overwhelming. The climate is always breezy and walking on the clouds often becomes a reality.
