Diu is located in Gujarat, Junagadh district. It lies in the western coast in Arabian sea, off the Gulf of Cambay. It is a Union Territory. It was a Portuguese Colony till 1961. The culture is strongly influenced by the Portuguese culture. There are 6 beaches. Diu is a small island. It is a beautiful tourist spot and serves tourism the best. Diu offers beautiful beaches with golden sand and thick palm-groves. Diu once was an important Sea port. Diu is a laid-back place. Localities thrive on fish and alcohol.
The coast has limestone cliffs, rocky coves and sandy beaches. Nagoa beach is the most popular tourist attraction; it is horse-shoe in shape. Gomtimata, Ahmedpur, Mandvi, Chakratirath, Jallandhar beaches are also popular. Chakratirth beach, has landscaped gardens, open air-auditorium and changing rooms. Water sports facilities are available. Diu comprises of several historical monuments, like the Diu Fort, St. Paul’s Church and St. Thomas Church converted into a museum. The Church and the Museums have been floodlit. Gardens, parks and fountains have been created around the monuments to beautify them. The monuments are beautiful because of its architecture and design. Gangeshwar Temple is also a popular spot.
You can idle in cafes, cycle around the island or stroll along the cliffs. Diu is an upcoming tourist destination. There is huge scope of growth in tourism. There are a number of Tourist Bungalows, Guest Houses and hotels in Diu. Private accommodations also are abundant here. Hotels are moderately priced. Some of the hotels are located near the sea and while some in the city. The weather is pleasant through out the year, but the best time to visit is from September to July.
