Gangtok is a very beautiful township situated in North East India. It is the capital of Sikkim. It presents a perfect mix of cosmopolitan culture with a blend of old world charm and hospitality which distinguishes this hill station from other places of tourist interest. It is well connected by road from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Siligudi. The nearest airport is Bagdogra and one can take a helicopter to Gangtok from Bagdogra. Do Drul Chorten is a very beautiful stupa built by the respected Trulshi Rimpoche. He is the head of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism. This stupa contains a lot of religious books, relics and other religious objects. This is one of the most venerated and holiest stupa in Sikkim. There are ten prayer wheels or mani – Lhakor around this stupa. The Deer Park houses different types of deers. It gives an arial view of Gangtok. The park premise is adorned by a statue of Lord Buddha. Enchey Monastery is a fascinating monastery located on a hilltop in Gangtok. It was once the hermitage site of Lama Drupthob Karpo renowned for his power of flying. This monastery was originally built keeping in mind that no other construction will be allowed near this. It has images of various gods and goddesses and other religious objects. The Ridge is a small stretch of plain and flat road above Gangtok. It is very near to the main market in Gangtok. It has the White Hall and the Chief Minister’s official residence. In autumn the Ridge looks very beautiful as it is lined with plants and trees which display a riot of colors when they bloom. The White Hall is a two storied structure and is situated on the Ridge. This is an excellent example of British architecture. The Tashi View Point, built by the king of Sikkim, Sri. Tashi Namgyal, offers a breathtaking view of the Kanchenjunga mountain ranges. The Himalayan Zoological Park houses the barking deer, bears and other animals of Sikkim in a natural habitat. Tourists go for an excursion to Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre. This is a spectacular monasterywhich has the memorial stupa of the XVI Gyalwa Karmapa inlaid with gold plate and semi precious stones. Very near to this is the original Rumtek Monastery which was destroyed due to fire and again rebuilt.
