"Average hotel in mountain paradise"

When my wife suggested that we drag oursleves and our 6 year old twins up the mountians into Chamba in Uttaranchal, my first reaction was "why Chamba of all places?" But as is usually the case, the wife won the day. Chamba is situated at about 6000 ft ASL and is a little over 2 hours driving distance from Rishikesh and about 3 hours from Dehradun. The overnight train from Delhi arrives in Dehradun early in the morning which ensures that once can get to Chamba before the sun gets too strong (it pays to remember that the car aircon needs to be turned off on these winding and steep hill drives). One piece of advice that the locals gave us - it is better to take the route via Rishikesh than the one via Mussorie. We stayed at the Classic Hill Top Hotel which is perched at the summit of a hill about 1000 ft above Chamba town. The hotel provies a great 360-degree panoramic view of superb mountian scenery. We were very lucky to catch 3 cloudless days, which allowed us to view a Himalayan panorama beyond compare. Sipp
