History |
The state of Chhattisgarh came into being only recently. It is shelled out from the state of Madhya Pradesh. In primeval times the area of Chhattisgarh was known as Dakshin-Kausal. The region has been ruled by various dynasties in the past. To name a few, they were Kalchuri, Nagvanshi, Sarabhpurias, Panduvanshi and Somvanshi. After the India's independence Chhattisgarh became a part of state Madhya Pradesh. But on 1st November 2000,Chattisgarh came into being, as the 26th State of the Union. |

Religions |
About two-third of the people of the district are animists and one-third are Hindus. There is a minority of Muslims in the state. There is a large percentage of converted Christians in the state also. Chhattisgarh is a depot of literature, arts and crafts. Hinduism is the main religion in the state. Then there is a sizable population of Muslims and Buddhists. A majority of the people of Chhattisgarh belongs to tribal communities. Many of the tribes converted to Christianity under the influence of early missionaries who worked in the area. |

The total population of Chhattisgarh is approximately 176.15 lakhs. The people of Chhattisgarh comprise of a diverse urban population with people from the neighbouring states who migrated into the state in search of work. The major tribal groups of Chhattisgarh are the Gonds with the other smaller tribes like the Kanwar, Brinjhwar, Bhaina, Bhatra, Oraon, Munda, Kamar, Halba, Baiga, Sanwra, Korwa, Bharia, Nageshia, Manghwar, Kharia and Dhanwar tribes. |

| Places to Visit / Attractions |
The greatest treasures are those invisible to the eye but found by the heart. The emerald green lands of Chhattisgarh will not only soothe your eyes but will also touch your heart. There are many places in Chhattisgarh that will grab your attention and will make you glued to the land. Some of the major tourists attractions are:
- Bilaspur - Bilaspur is well known for its kosa silk and the quality of its rice. It is the second largest city in Chhattisgarh, and home to its High Court. The city is approximately 400 years old. The name is derived from bilasa, the name for fisherwomen.
- Kutaghat Dam - This popular picnic spot is surrounded by forests and hills on the four sides. It is located 10 kms away from Ratanpur district.
- Khadia Dam – Another dam which is popular in Chhattisgarh is the Khadia Dam. It is known for its beauty and exquisiteness.
- Belpan – This place is widely known for its big pond and Samadhi.
