History |
The history of Mizoram dates back to the time of the existence of the Lushai tribes. The Mizo tribes initially dwelled in the hills of Burma. The Lushai tribe moved into India and become the foremost tribe in the region that later on came to be known as the Lushai Hills. In the early nineteenth century the Lushai Tribe had a quarrel with the British. It was in the year 1895. British captured the province. When India developed into an independent country in 1947,the Mizo Hills were a part of Assam. In the year 1972, it was made a Union Territory and given the name Mizoram. In the month of February, in the year 1987, Mizoram was made the 23rd state of India.

Geography |
The total land area of the tantalizing and mesmerizing land of land of Mizoram is approximately 21,087 sq. kms. It is situated at 21o 58' & 24o 35' north latitude and 92o 15' & 93 o 29' east longitude. It shares the inter state border with three states viz. Assam, Tripura and Manipur. It shares the international border with Myanmar and Bangladesh. Flanked by Myanmar on the east and Bangladesh on the west, Mizoram absorbs an importance strategic position having a long international boundary of 722 Kms. |

Climate/Temperature |
Mizoram enjoys a cool and moderate type of climate. The climate is mild and pleasant all throughout the year. Winters are cool and summers are not very hot. The months of April and May are of very heavy storms. Heavy storms from northeast engulf the area in the months of April and May. Rainy season extends from May to September. During that time, heavy rains fall in the state making the weather humid and clammy. The temperature is cool throughout the year. During winter, the temperature varies from 11ºC to 21ºC and in summer it varies between 20ºC to 29ºC and the average rainfall is 254 cm, per annum. |

Religions |
The British had ruled the land for an enormous amount of time. They encouraged missionary activity among the tribes. As a result the Lushai and some other tribes converted to Christianity. Today the Mizo community is greatly influenced by Christianity. |

Languages Spoken |
The main language spoken in the beautiful state of Mizoram is Mizo. A large population of the state speaks this language. Then there are many educated people on the land who prefer to speak English. English is also the official language of the state. |

People / Population |
The total population of the state of Mizoram is approximately 8,91,058. Mostly the Mizo tribes inhabit the land. The Mizo tribes include the Lushais, Pawis, Paithes, Raltes, Pang, Himars, Kukis, Lakhers and others. Initially they are believed to have come from northwestern China and moved towards their present homeland, about 300 years ago. World-renowned for their hospitality, Mizos are a cohesive civilization with no class distinction and no discrimination on grounds of sex. The complete society is knitted together by an uncharacteristic code of ethics 'Tlawmngaihna'. This is an untranslatable term meaning on the part of everyone to be hospitable kind, unselfish and helpful to others. |
