Berijam Lake, Kodaikanal: Berijam Lake is just 21 kms from the picturesque Kodaikanal hill station located in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Surrounded by tall pine trees the lake carrries pure water. The forested area around is an attractive picnic spot. The main attractions here include boat ride and fishing. Permission is needed though to enter the forests.
Punganoor Lake, Yelagiri
Punganoor artificial Lake-cum-Park is without doubt the prime attraction of Yelagiri hills located in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. The water is clear here and without any foul smell. Surrounded by hills, the lake and the adjacent Nature Park offers enough reasons for having a perfectly relaxed holiday.
Venna Lake, Mahabaleshwar
The Venna Lake constructed in 1842 is within a walking distance from the Mahabaleshwar town and a major attraction for the tourists. Spread over 28 acres, with an average depth of 10 feet, the lake offers excellent boating facilities. The area around the lake has lots of greenery which adds to the beauty of the lake.
Saputara Lake, Saputara
Saputara Lake located on the base of Saputara hill station is the centre of attraction of the only hill station in Gujarat State. The 21 m depth Lake amid the picturesque hilly surroundings remains abuzz with activities all the year round. Different types of boating are the main attractions of the place though the surroundings provide equal opportunity for merry making.
Nakki Lake, Mount Abu
Nakki Lake is located in the heart of Mount Abu, Rajasthan`s only hill station. The lake offers excellent boating facilities and enjoying the proceedings amid the setting sun is a special feeling here. A children’s park and a statue of Swami Vivekananda marking the monk’s advent at Mount Abu are the other attractions here.
Sattal Lake, Bhimtal
There are actually a cluster of lakes at Sattal just 23 kms from Nainital and 4320 feet above the sea level in the Kumayun Himalayas. This quaint and idyllic place boasts of 5 lakes. The first is the Nal Damyanti Lake, followed by Panna Lake and then the three lakes- Ram, Laxman and Sita. The lakes are surrounded by dense oak forests and there is a feeling of bliss all around.
Prashar Lake, Mandi
Prashar Lake located in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh is a high-altitude natural lake just 42 km from the main Mandi town. The lake is situated at 2,730 metres above sea level. Near the lake is a temple dedicated to sage Prashar with a unique three-tier pagoda like structure. The lake can be accessed through a beautiful trekking route from Bagi.
Changu Lake, Gangtok
Surrounded by Alpine forests Changu Lake meaning the "source of the lake" in local language is located just 35 kms away from Gangtok. This 1 km long oval shaped lake is situated at an altitude 12,310 ft on the Gangtok Nathu La highway. This lake remains frozen during the winter months. Tourists need a permit to visit this lake as it falls in the restricted area.
Kalagarh Dam Lake, Corbertt National Park
The 80-sq km Kalagarh Lake created as a result of the construction of a dam by the same name is situated at the south-western side of the Corbett National Park. The scenic lake during the winters is home to a large number of migratory birds and attracts bird watchers in droves.
Tamdil Lake, Aizawl
Tamdil Lake in the beautiful north east is located just 85 km from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. A beautiful natural lake amidst lush green forest, it is an ideal picnic spot and offers boating facilities for the tourists.
