Coorg is a small town situated in Karnataka popular for its natural settings. Coorg is referred to as Kodagu by the people of this town. Located amidst the Western Ghats, this is one of the most beautiful tourist attracting destinations in India. The river Cauvery begins here. The Lingayat Rajas ruled over Coorg since 1600 AD and their capital was at Madikeri. Their kingdom was devastated in ad 1785, when Tipu marched into Coorg with his army. Coorg regained its independence with the help of the British four years later. The British took over power in ad 1834.
