Festivals are a vital part of Delhi’s culture. The people of
Delhi are lovers of the festivity and
joyous moments. They don’t miss a single chance of elation and jollity. The festivals
change the everyday mood of hectic and tedious lives. People get a break from there
day-to-day monotonous schedules and get some time to thrill. Festivals are meant for
enjoyment and fun and this is the integral part of life of every person.
Delhites are lover of fun and merry-making.
The most important celebrations in the city are Republic Day on 26th Jan and
Independence Day on 15th August. This includes an exhibition of the armed forces
and folk culture of all the states of the country. Republic Day Parade of Delhi
is the biggest a chief festival of Delhi. People from all parts of the country come to watch this
ostentatious event. The main attraction of the event is the grand parade besides, the cultural events
and tableaus.
Some other gala events are Id-ul-Fitr that marks the end of the holy month of
Ramzan. The next main festivals celebrated in the city are
Diwali and Holi. These festivals are celebrated in the entire
city with great pomp and show. On Diwali, people burn crackers and do Diwali pooja in their homes.
On Holi people spurt colours on each other.
There is a festival called Dusshera in which the models of Ravana,
and his two brothers are burnt. People gather to see the burning models. This festival is marked by
the victory of Dharma over Adharma.
