The literal meaning of Gangtok is “top of the hill”. Gangtok is situated at an elevation of about 5,600 feet (1,700 m). It is situated at the border of a ridge. Gangtok is the largest town in whole of the Sikkim. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town far away in the quiet lands there are beautiful natural sceneries and some excellent views of Mt. Khangchendzonga. Gangtok is a beautiful blend of old traditions and modern views. Both modernity and traditionalism and beautifully blended in this capital city of Sikkim.
