Public and private busses are available for transport. Auto rikshaws are used for short distances. The fares have to be negotiated beforehand. Though the minimum fare is Rs.10 and some rickshaws have electronic meters, they are by and large useless. Taxis are available for larger distances. Local buses ply all over the city and also connect it to the rest of the state. The minimum fare is Rs.3.
Another transport option available is by water. Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation, the state Water Transport Authority, and private boats can be availed of from Bolgatty Ferry and the Park Avenue main jetty to various places. A junkar ferry for vehicles and passengers is operated between Ernakulam and Vypeen, and between Vypeen and Fort Kochi.
