There is no real night life in Ladakh. Most of the bars are associated with the hotels. Life in these cold areas comes is packed with action in the summer months. Archery is a part of Ladakhi culture and archery festivals are a lot of fun and friendly competition. All the surrounding villages send in their teams and the sport itself is conducted to the accompaniment of the oboe and drum. The game has strict rules and its own etiquette. The game is interspersed with music, dance and the free flow of chang, the local barley beer.
There is no better way to imbibe the raw spirit of Ladakh than to self-introspect and mediate. The Mahabodhi International Meditation (MIM) Centre (near Choglamsar) offers courses in various forms of meditation. It also runs a branch within Leh town, at Changspa.
