Location
Mussoorie is a beautiful city located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the capital city of Uttaranchal. Total land area of this town is 65 square kilometers. This hill station which lies on the foothills of the Great Himalayas is often called as the Queen of the hill stations. The latitudinal and longitudinal extent of Mussoorie is 30°27′N and 78°05′E. This hill station gives a “fairyland” type feeling to its tourists – stunning snow ranges to its north east, spectacular sight of the Doon valley and Siwalik Ranges to the south. This town is located at an elevation of 2000 meters or 6600 feet from the mean sea level. The adjoining townships of Landour, Barlowganj, Jharipani are also regarded as a part of “greater Mussoorie”.
Population
According to 2001 census population of Mussoorie was 26,069. Of this, 56% are males and 44% are females. This hill station has a literacy rate of 79% which is even higher than the national average (59.5%).
