According to myths and legends, the erudite Raibhya Rishi sat down on the banks of the holy river Ganges and executed strict penance. He was pleased when the lord appeared in the form of Rishikesh in front of him. Thus this place got the name “Rishikesh”. Over the ages, sacred people have meditated and read prayers at this serene and calm place with the towering mountains gazing down and the consecrated Ganges flowing beside. The revered river Ganges flows through the blessed city of Rishikesh. In fact, Rishikesh is the place where this holy river leaves the Shivalik Mountains and flows into the plains. The enthralling city attracts hundreds and thousands of tourists and pilgrims every year from the country as well as other countries.
