Location
The wonderful hill resort of Shimla is scattered in an area of about 18 sq. kms. It is located at an altitude of around 2,213 meters. Situated in the northwest Himalayas, Shimla is superbly robed in impenetrable forests of oak and pine, fur and rhododendron. It is placed in the impend ranges of the Himalaya Mountains. Towards the north lie the snow-covered high-ranges, whilst the valleys expansive whispering streams and captivating fields.
Population
The population of the mesmerizing city of Shimla is approximately 163,000 according to the 2001 census. Shimla was the summer capital of India under British rule. Currently, it is the state capital of Himachal Pradesh, with its population around 1.6 lacks (Shimla town only).
