Nasik one of the holiest places of India is situated on the banks of the River Godavari. Nasik is one of the four places where Kumbha-mela is held. Other places being Ujjain, Haridwar and Allahabad. Legend has it that here at Nasik, Laxmana chopped of the nose of Ravana`s sister Shupranakha and Ravana kidnapped Sita.

Places to be seen

Ramkund: Ramkund is a holy tank constructed in 1695. It is said that lord Rama and Sita used this tank for bathing during their years of exile. It is also believed by the people that salvation is achieved if the ashes are immersed in the kund after death.

Muktidham Temple: The temple located near the station has been built with pure white makrana marble tiles. The temple is constructed so skillfully that it is considered as an outstanding piece of architecture. The entire 18 chapters of the Bhagwad Geeta are written here on the walls of the temple.

Kalaram Temple: Built in 1794 by Peshwas is famous for the processions that are held during Ramnavami and Dusshera. The Temple is build of black stone with the tip of 2 tons of gold. The shape and design pretty much related to that of the Trimbakeshwar Temple.

Panchavati: The northern part of the river Godavari is known as Panchavati. It got its name because of the five banyan trees that are located there. It is believed that lord Rama stayed here with brother Laxmana and wife Sita.

Sita Gupha: The place from Ravana abducted Sita. There is a small cave where you have to crawl into. The deities of Rama, Sita, and Laxmana are there in the cave.

Tapovan: It is the place where Laxmana cut off the nose of Ravana’s sister Shupranakha.
