Srinagar Travel Guide

Activity For Kids

Srinagar doesn't have the usual adventure parks and game parlours. But the huge gardens, pony and boat rides, and shikaras, are great fun, irrespective of age.

If you thought holidaying in Srinagar was brave enough, think again. The city has several challenges ready to throw at you. Safari at Dachigam National Park: Just 22 km from Srinagar, Dachigam is home to leopards, cinnamon sparrows, black and yellow grosbeaks, black bulbuls, pheasants and the Himalayan gray langurs. There are plenty of trekking opportunities available at the sanctuary, both for amateurs and experienced trekkers. The treks to the upper regions are strenuous and require camping/climbing equipment to be taken along. The J&KTDC TRC in Srinagar will help you get these.

The park does have accommodation but it difficult to get. So either book in advance or make a day trip.Hiking, trekking and fishing at Pahalgam: Some 95 km from Srinagar, Pahalgam is among Kashmir's best-known resorts, thanks to the various sports that it offers. For horse riding, hire ponies directly in Pahalgam or through the J&K TRC in Srinagar.

Fishing in the Lidder is a delight. Famous for its brown trout, the best haul is made between April and September. Permits are issued, for a maximum of three days at a time, on a first-come first-served basis and charged per day, per rod. Fishing equipment has to be hired in Srinagar. Live baits and spinning are not allowed.
