Srinagar is located 876Km north of New Delhi, the capital of India. Srinagar is connected well with New Delhi by air and road. Located along either banks of river Jhelam, Srinagar is the heart of the famous Kashmir valley.
Srinagar was founded by King Pravarasena-II over 2000 years ago. After some time Srinagar came under the rule of Mughal Emperor Akbar, during whose rule most of the fascinating gardens and mosques of Srinagar were fashioned. When India became independent in 1947, the then ruler Maharaja Hari Singh accede the state of Jammu and Kashmir to be a part of the Indian Union, making it a state with Srinagar as its capital. Since then Srinagar has been the most popular tourist destination in India.
