Skiing is a popular sport in gulmarg close to Srinagar. Gulmarg holds a position as one of the highest lift-served ski resorts in the world. The skiing season in Gulmarg usually commences before Christmas (around middle of December) and continues till middle of April.
The waters of Dal Lake and its channels are popular for kayaking and Shikara rides and also provide a glimpse of the Kashmiri life on the banks of the dal.
