Zoo
the zoo is located in the heart of the city. It is open on all days of the week except on mondays. The timings for visiting are from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. It is located in a botanical garden. The Akkulam Boat Club located on the outskirts of the city along with boating also has a large children's park.
Trekking
There are a number of trekking points around Trivandrum. Ponmudi and Agasthyakoodam, the second highest peak in Kerala, at a height of 1890m above sea level are good trekking points.
Boating
Boating can be done at the Akkulam Boat Club on the outskirts of the city, a popular retreat for families. The club also has a large children's park. The Neyyar Dam, 32 kms from the city housing a watchtower, crocodile farm, lion safari park and deer park are also a favourite among kids.
Horse Riding
A popular spot where children can trot around or be led on small ponies can be found at Veli on the coast 9kms from Thiruvananthapuram.
